CPACT is delighted to welcome Devro!

27-05-2022

Devro, formerly the “Development and Research Organisation” of Johnson and Johnson, is a multinational company based just outside Glasgow (350 people employed on this site), which manufactures and distributes goods derived from Collagen, principally sausage casings, a product in which it is a world leader.

In making sausage casings for its customers, there are several attributes key to its successful application. The casing must be strong enough to hold the filling, withstand the stress of cooking, but also be tender enough to eat.  Collagen is a natural composite material, with the gel matrix reinforced by collagen fibres which can be oriented to some degree to alter mechanical attributes. There are also in-process changes that can be made to alter the mechanical properties.

In joining CPACT they look to learn from others who have experience of reducing batch to batch variation, pumping and mixing of suspensions, solids measuring and control of viscous gels.

We look forward to working with them.
