Taming High-Viscosity Processes with Palm-Sized, Mid-IR Spectroscopy Made in Singapore for Emulsification and Polymer Functionalization

Lennon Lee, Paeonia innovations

30th April 2026 at 5pm Singapore time, 10 am (UK time)

High-viscosity process streams have long been a barrier to reliable inline Process Analytical Technology (PAT). Conventional spectroscopic solutions struggle when faced with optically complex matrices — concentrated emulsions and polymer melts — where fouling, cleaning downtime, and poor signal quality make real-time monitoring impractical. The result: manufacturers fall back on off-line sampling, accepting the lag time, batch-to-batch variability, and quality risk that comes with it.

In the first case study, we examine inline mid-IR monitoring of an emulsification process, revealing the four critical stages in real time. The optically dense matrix that defeat most probe solutions are shown to be no obstacle in our transmission system complete with sampling and cleaning in place.

In the second case study, we explore real-time monitoring of a polymer functionalization reaction, where the degree of substitution must be tracked dynamically to reduce cycle times.

With a measurement cadence of 3 spectra per second, sustained high signal-to-noise ratio even in optically dense media, and a sampling interface designed to handle high-viscosity streams with cleaning, this new platform delivers the insights that modern process control demands.

Attendees will leave with:

· A clear framework for PAT implementation in high-viscosity applications

· Practical insights into inline sampling design and automated cleaning strategies

· An understanding of how high-frequency, high-SNR, mid-IR data enables tighter process control and reduced cycle time

· Guidance on translating spectral data into actionable process endpoints

This webinar is particularly relevant to process engineers, analytical scientists, and PAT champions in the specialty chemicals, agrochemical, food & personal care, and polymer industries across South East Asia.
