Between 30th Sept-1st Oct 2019 the first workshop
on the application of Advanced Process Control (APC) was hosted by AIChE PD2M
in Washington DC. Attendees from across industry, academia and the health
authorities took part in presentations and activities around the learnings/roadblocks
to the deployment of APC. Two outcomes from the workshop are a white paper and the registration of 3 new ASTM standards; the first covering
soft-sensor model development and validation, the second validation of APC, and
a third around the use of Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence. The first
two standards are in preliminary draft and comments/inputs are welcome. The
third is an administrative standard that includes a collaboration area to further
distill ideas that can then be developed into a standard.
